Develop an interactive STEAM-focused engagement or exhibit, in collaboration with Techniquest. This live brief challenges you to design an innovative, hands-on experience that communicates a scientific or technological concept in an engaging, accessible way for public audiences. Following an iterative design process (employing divergent and convergent thinking) you will generate concepts, design, test, and prototype.
Techniquest’s main audience are families with primary school aged children, and your project should be accessible for explorers of all knowledge levels, skills and abilities. Your project should be engaging for all visitors and your final design should be durable, ergonomic, intuitive to engage with, and accessible for all abilities.
design an interactive, child-friendly exhibit that clearly demonstrates Lenz’s Law. Where a falling magnet moves slowly through a conductive metal tube due to the changing magnetic field inducing eddy currents, which creates opposite magnetic field to the falling magnet (magnetic damping).
The exhibit should allow primary-age children to safely drop different objects into a set of contrasting tubes, observe the difference in falling speeds, and intuitively understand that invisible forces act within the metal.
My design has been taken further by Techniquest and we’re currently going through the process of finalising the design for it to added to the science museum.
